“European values – window dressing or reality?”

Lecture evening with the winners of the Charlemagne Prize Jean-Claude Juncker and Martin Schulz

Summit meeting of two winners of the Charlemagne Prize: On Monday, 18 September, at 6 p.m., Jean-Claude Juncker, former President of the European Commission, and former EU Parliament President Martin Schulz will enter into a dialogue at the invitation of the European Foundation Aachen Cathedral (ESAD).

Under the heading “European values – whitewash or reality?” they will analyse wish and reality and discuss the present and future of the European association of states against the background of current political issues. Both Juncker (winner of the 2006 Charlemagne Prize) and Schulz (winner of the 2015 Charlemagne Prize) will begin with a keynote speech lasting about a quarter of an hour, followed by an in-depth discussion with Ines Kubat, editor of the Aachener Zeitung. Admission is free, registration is not required.

Background: The European Foundation is committed to highlighting the special historical dimension of Aachen Cathedral in Europe. Like hardly any other church, the Carolingian building reminds us of the common Christian foundation on which Europe was built. The cathedral reflects the idea of a transnational, common association of states.
