The motto “EinKlang” underlines the musical bond

Joint concert of La Manécanterie de Saint-Jean from Colmar and the Girls’ Choir at Aachen Cathedral on 16 September

In October 2018, the Girls’ Choir at Aachen Cathedral visited Alsace. As part of the Octophonia festival, they performed two concerts in the abbey church of Ottmarsheim near Colmar. Its octagonal central building is based on the Carolingian Aachen Palatine Chapel. The interior of the Romanesque building also resembles the cathedral, but without the magnificent mosaic. No wonder, then, that the Aachen singers immediately felt at home there and made friendly contacts.

Unfortunately, a return visit and the planned conclusion with all the choirs participating in the festival did not take place because of the corona pandemic. But the contact between the Aachen choir director Marco Fühner and his colleague Benoit Kiry, the founder of La Manécanterie de Saint-Jean, Choeur de filles de Colmar, remained.

In September, there will now be a reunion: The girls’ choir from Alsace will travel to Aachen! On Saturday, 16 September, at 7 p.m., the two ensembles will perform a joint concert with works by Scarlatti, Vivaldi and Arnesen. The motto “EinKlang” underlines the musical bond between the German and French choirs. Tickets priced from 8 to 18 euros can be purchased now at the Dominformation or online:

The following day, Sunday 17 September, all the singers can be heard at the 10 am Eucharist with the “Messe des pecheurs de Villerville” (Gabriel Fauré/André Messager), “Call of the angels” (Darius Lim) and “Tecum principum” (Antonio Vivaldi).
