For two days, a team from the culture program Westart visited the cathedral construction lodge to look over the shoulders of cathedral master builder Helmut Maintz, Angela Schiffer (draftswoman and construction technician), Jochen Brammertz (stonemason) and Frank Müllejans (electrical technician) as they went about their exciting work. After all, there is always plenty to do in a building as old as the cathedral.

Presenter Siham El-Maimouni took a look behind the scenes, was instructed in manual techniques, climbed down into the cellar and up to the falcon’s eyrie. What impressions she gained, whether she enjoyed her time in Aachen and whether she is now one of the many fans of Aachen Cathedral will be revealed on Saturday. The half-hour program will be broadcast on February 6 at 6:15 p.m. on WDR.
